The Otter Valley Association has a working group focused on showcasing and protecting the flora & fauna of the Otter valley. Our charter for this group is as follows:
Goals & Aspirations:
The goal of the group is to help protect and enhance the flora & fauna in the lower Otter area.
Birdlife | Insects | Animals | Fish | Plants |
Organisation:
The Group will comprise members with a broad range of skills and backgrounds. We encourage group members to join the OVA. We will use WhatsApp, email and face:face meetings to communicate and progress activities. Regular updates will be made to the OVA executive committee and partner organisations (as and when relevant). We will provide OVA members and the wider community with regular updates relating to the work of the group, as well as native, migratory and invasive species.
Documentation:
We will attempt to document (locating and identifying) the range of flora and fauna in the valley - focusing perhaps on residents, aliens, rare or unusual species. We will investigate the use of apps such as iNaturalist, as well as showcasing a simple but powerful representation of the Flora and Fauna on the OVA website.
Publications:
We will review current publications and then to produce / publish materials to help with the well-being of insects, birds, animals and plants (e.g.: leaflets, booklets, web-pages etc).
Engagement:
We will encourage participation of adults and children in enjoying the flora and fauna (walks, talks, school engagements, photography competitions etc).
Protect & Enhance:
We will help protect and enhance our flora and fauna where necessary - planting trees, protecting hedgerows, protecting rare examples, etc.
Partnerships:
We will work with partners to help protect the habitat (such as identifying and helping remove invasive species etc).
