East Budleigh’s 2025 Scarecrow Festival takes place on 7-8 June, raising funds for the village’s ancient and beautiful church of All Saints. Among other events the festival will again include the Conant Duck Race, sponsored by East Budleigh’s Roger Conant Club in memory of the founder of Salem, Massachusetts. Roger Conant, who crossed the Atlantic in around 1623 was from a well-known East Budleigh family with strong links to the church. His father was a village churchwarden, and his nephews included a vicar of All Saints as well as the theologian and Vice Chancellor of Oxford Dr John Conant.
